I’m Mari Angeles Guillén, and I am sending you the
essay on the use of mobile phones in classrooms.
“Recently, a debate has emerged about the use of
mobile phones in classrooms. Different studies indicate that the use of mobile
phones in classrooms affects the ability to concentrate and, therefore, the
academic performance of students. It also affects socialization, and
cyberbullying appears.
This has led different countries to regulate the use
of mobile phones in classrooms, either by prohibiting their use or limiting it.
In Spain, there are communities such as Galicia, Castilla-La Mancha, and Madrid
that have prohibited it, although they allow educational centres to decide on
its use for pedagogical purposes.
There are conflicting opinions among teachers. On the
one hand, some see the prohibition as necessary for greater academic
performance, avoiding the distractions that mobile phone use causes. On the
other hand, some teachers believe that education should raise awareness about
the proper use of new technologies.
In my opinion, limiting the use of mobile phones in
classrooms should be determined by teachers, using them only for educational
and pedagogical purposes. I think the problem also exists outside the
classrooms. I believe that families have the responsibility of educating our
children on the proper use of mobile phones. From my point of view, everything
depends on raising awareness of the good use of new technologies by society.”
